Nepal will soon restore civil liberties suspended after King Gyanendra seized power and declared a state of emergency last month, the foreign minister said on Thursday.

Ramesh Nath Pandey’s comments came a day after Kathmandu released eight political leaders who were detained last month.

‘‘The temporary suspension of certain rights of the Nepalese people, applicable to emergency situations elsewhere in the world, will be restored sooner than later,’’ Pandey told a public meeting in Kathmandu. He however did not give a timeframe. —Reuters
