A day after the People’s War Group allegedly paraded an abducted police sub-inspector before a ‘‘jan adalat’’ and extended their deadline to ‘‘punish’’ him by another five days, the Chhattisgarh government today said they were ready to accept four of the five demands announced by the Naxalites yesterday.

The ‘‘jan adalat’’ was allegedly addressed by top Naxal leaders, who decided to give another chance to the state government to accept their demands in view of the appeals issued separately by revolutionary poet Varavara Rao and Gadar for the S-I’s release. They said this would be the last time they were extending the deadline.

After a high-level meeting today, the government offered to talk to the Naxalites. ‘‘We are inviting the Naxalites for talks and we suggest that they nominate their representatives. We also request them to release the abducted sub-inspector to create a (conducive) atmosphere for talks on their demands,’’ State Home Secretary R.P. Bagai said.
