GUWAHATI, NOV 9: The Central Bureau of Investigation Director R C Sharma arrived here today in compliance with the Guwahati High Court order regarding the progress of the Rs 400 crore letter of credit (LOC) scandal.

The CBI director was asked to appear by the court to explain the delay in filing the charge-sheet of the most sensitive demow case in the entire scam, which involved a number of top politicians of the State. The case will be heard tomorrow by Chief Justice M Ramakrishna and Justice D Biswas.

Sharma was accompanied by Additional Attorney General K N Bhat and DIG N P Singh, who has been overlooking the entire case. Sharma is expected to submit a progress report pertaining to the demow case where more than Rs 40 crore state money was siphoned off through fake LOCs by a select group of suppliers and officials on the behest of petitions from both Congress and AGP.

The CBI already informed the court that there were serious differences of opinion about the demow case in the legal cell regarding politicians’ involvement.
