Two senior police officials, named in the chargesheet filed by the CBI in connection with the Bilqis Yakoob Rasool rape-cum-murder, on Friday filed an anticipatory bail plea in the Godhra sessions court.

Arvind Pandya, counsel for the two — ACP (Traffic) Ramsinh Bhabhor and DSP (Intelligence) R.S. Bhagora — confirmed the plea was filed before the court and added that it may come up for hearing on Monday.

Both Bhabhor and Bhagora were posted in Dahod when the relatives of Bilqis were raped and murdered on March 2, 2002. In its chargesheet filed before the Chief Judicial Magistrate recently, the CBI had indicted the two for destruction of evidence which included dumping 60 kg salt on the bodies of Bilqis’s relatives. The officers had filed for anticipatory bail before a special fast track court in Ahmedabad which rejected the plea.
