After shifting the Saran range DIG and Superintendent of Police on the directive of the Election Commission over alleged irregularities in the April 26 poll in Chapra, the Bihar government today sent two sets of three names each to the Election Commission to fill the posts.

Official sources said the three names for the post of DIG, Saran are: Ashok Verma (DIG, Headquarters), Gupteshwar Pandey (DIG, Munger) and A.A. Hasmi (DIG, CID). The names shortlisted for the post of SP are: Shobha Ahotkar (SP, Special Branch), A.K. Ambedkar (SP, Bhojpur) and Shoib Khan (SP, Lakhisarai).

The state government had shifted Ganesh Prasad Yadav and Ganesh Kumar as DIG and SP respectively of Saran on Monday night on the EC’s directive.

The two are waiting for their new postings. A two-member Election Commission inquiry team comprising its advisor K.J. Rao and Principal Secretary Anand Kumar that had on May 2 and 3 probed irregularities in the conduct of elections in Chapra, where RJD chief Laloo Prasad Yadav and BJP leader and former Union Civil Aviation minister Rajiv Pratap Rudy are engaged in a neck and neck contest, had found irregularities in deployment of security forces during polling on April 26.

On the basis of the probe team report, the Election Commission had countermanded the election to the Chapra Lok Sabha seat and announced a fresh poll on May 31.
