Bihar has been put on alert on Wednesday ahead of the ‘shaheed Diwas’ (sacrifice day) to be observed by the banned CPI (Maoist) on Thursday, senior police official said.
“All police stations in the Naxal-hit districts of Gaya, Aurangabad, Nawada, Jehanabad, Jamui and Rohtas have been put on maximum alert,” IG (Operation) S K Bhardwaj said on Wednesday.
Superintendents of Police in the districts have been asked to intensify patrol on road and railway tracks.
Extra security was deployed to secure the property of railways, considered a soft target for the Naxalites, official sources said.
Security personnel were also tipped about possible Maoist operations on the basis of intelligence inputs, they said.
Intelligence agencies have reportedly alerted the security establishments about possible attacks on government buildings and other vital installations in the Maoist-affected districts.
