CHANDIGARH, June 10: Former Chief Minister Rajinder Kaur Bhattal was yesterday unanimously declared elected as president of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC).
The announcement was made by Pradesh Returning Officer Prabha Devi late in the night. Bhattal, who is at present leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP), was the lone candidate. Meanwhile, outgoing PCC chief Santokh Singh Randhawa refused to be a party to the election . There was some tension as his supporters and those of Bhattal raised slogans outside the Congress Bhawan. There appeared to be impasse for some time as the deadline for filing of nominations was extended by Rao with Randhawa appearing to be in a defiant mood.
