NEW DELHI, January 7: International wrestler and trainee of Dronacharya Guru Hanuman, Bhagat Singh became the Hind Kesri after pinning down Raju of Badri Akhara in nine minutes and 25 seconds. The winner also earned a purse of Rs 51,000 along with the title.
Railways claimed the team title with an aggregate of 52 points in the 33rd national senior wrestling championships which were held simultaneously.
This was the 11th time the Railways had won the team championships. Haryana, with 27 points, came second while Delhi finished third.
Seven wrestlers from the Railways won gold medals in the championships, according to chairman of the technical committee, Bishambar Singh.
They were: Jaibhagwan (54kg), Narendra Singh (58kg), Hanuman Singh (63kg), Joginder Singh (69kg), Virendra Singh (76kg), Sajbir Singh (89kg) and Naresh Singh (97kg and above).
Delhi’s lone gold medal was fetched by Sripal Singh of Sanjay Akhara.
