CHANDIGARH, May 20: Students who have passed undergraduate examination in the vocational stream would be eligible for admission to postgraduate course in any of the conventional subjects which they have studied at the undergraduate level.
This provision was allowed by the Panjab University Academic Council at its meeting, here today. This corrects a major anomaly in the university regulations which barred PU students who were studying vocational courses from seeking admissions in traditional courses. This provisions would affect B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. students. A science student studying vocational subjects would now be able to seek admission in M.Sc. (Physics, Chemistry and Maths) in case he has opted for these subjects at undergraduate levels.
According to Registrar Paramjit Singh, the Academic Council also approved the introduction of a course in M.Ed. (correspondence course). This course will, however, be open only to teachers in service and the duration of the course will be two years with effect from the academic session of 1999.
The Academic Council also approved a change in nomenclature of Master of International Business to Master of Business Administration (International Business) and Master of Personnel Management and Industrial Relations to Master of Business Administration (Human Resource).
Three college principals, Dr A.C. Vaid of GGDSD College, Chandigarh, Satinder Dhillon of Dev Samaj College of Education, Chandigarh, and Dr H.S. Deol of Government College, Ludhiana, have been elected members of the library committee to manage the day to day affairs of the university library for the term April 1, 1998 to March 31, 2000. The issue of increase in rate of evaluation work was raised by Shinder Pal Singh of SGGS College.
At the beginning of the meeting, Prof D.C.Saxena stated that the meeting was being illegally convened. He also stated that the academic council could not amend the university regulations as this was beyond its jurisdiction.
