Jeev Milkha Singh’s back-nine blues meant he turned in a card of two-over 74 to be tied 21st at the halfway stage of the Masters here.

Daniel Chopra, however, was not that lucky, and a disastrous second round of six-over 78 soured his debut.

With a total of one-over 145, Jeev joined a group of eight, including US Open champion Angel Cabrera and British Open winner Padraig Harrington, in 21st place. Despite the struggle, Jeev is determined to move into the top-15 by the end of the week to ensure a return trip to next year’s Masters.

“I drove the ball poorly. I was disappointed with that and lost confidence on the back nine. I tried to hit it too hard with my driver and I think that’s what got me. It was one of those things. My rhythm became too quick,” he said.

Jeev got to red numbers with a two-putt birdie on the par five eighth. But he gave the shot back on the 11th hole, the first of a three-hole stretch that forms the Amen Corner, dropped another on the par five 13th when he sent his approach into a bunker, and then one on the 17th.

“I’m here for the weekend and I’m going to give it a go,” Jeev said of the next two rounds.
