GUWAHATI, March 8: Senior Congress leader Santosh Mohan Deb and Asom Gana Parishad leader Birendra Prasad Baishya, who were defeated in their respective constituencies in the Lok Sabha elections, are to be nominated to the Rajya Sabha by their parties.
Elections for two Rajya Sabha seats from Assam, due to be vacant on April 2, will be held on March 27. Deb was ousted from his Silchar by Kabindra Purakayastha of BJP by a margin of about 16,000 votes, Baishya came third in Mangaldoi constituency which was wrested by Congress.
