Mohammad Asif has been advised a week’s rest after he suffered an elbow injury during the second cricket Test against South Africa.

Pakistan’s one-day matches against South Africa are on October 18, 20 and 23 and Asif will have to recover quickly to get fit in time for the series.

“He went for a MRI scan today and although the tests showed no serious injury but he has been advised rest for a week,” Pakistan manager Talat Ali said. “He will remain with the team and can train lightly but can’t bowl. We will review his progress after a week. We hope he is recovered in time for the first one-dayer against South Africa in a week’s time,” he said.

Asif went off the field after bowling just four overs in the South African second innings yesterday after having sent down 34 overs in their first innings of 357. “Thankfully it just an inflammation in his elbow,” Talat said. Asif last year missed four Tests in England and then also the World Cup this year due to the same injury which has troubled him for a while now.
