As the Army prepares for the first ever conclave of ex-chiefs starting on Friday, it’s also bracing up for some serious talking-to.
The top brass is particularly keen to get direct inputs on its war doctrine, tipped to be finalised during the Army Commanders’ conference next week. The ex-chiefs, who have arrived here for the two-day event, may also present a checklist on how things could have been done better on the operational front.
The list on deployments will include the Kargil war, its aftermath, the piling up of forces along the Line of Control over two years ago, cross-border terrorism and, the way the North East turmoil was handled.
‘‘Overall, the Army expects to be sounded off by the voice of experience. There are several areas in which the Army feels it needs the advice of ex-chiefs, some of who have clearly steered the service through more trying times,’’ sources said.
Field Marshal Sam Manekshaw will review a parade of the Army’s 61 Cavalry on Saturday afternoon.
