SRINAGAR, JUNE 12: Security forces frustrated an intrusion attempt of Pakistan-based militants into Kashmir valley, where four militants were killed and three securitymen injured in two separate encounters today.

The infiltration attempt of Pakistan-trained militants was foiled jointly by the special operations group of Jammu and Kashmir police and army in Kumb Kari sector of Kupwara district in North Kashmir, an official spokesman said.

He said police assisted by Army laid tactical ambushes near the Line of Control following information about possible attempt of militants to sneak into the valley. The troops noticed the militants early today and challenged them. The intruders opened fire and in the ensuing encounters three militants were killed, the spokesman said.

He said an assistant sub-inspector of police, Mohan Lal and two securitymen were injured in the encounter.

In another encounter, the spokesman said security forces assisted by police parties shot dead a foreign militant Mohammad Abdullah alias Abu Zarar in Kalaroos area of Kupwara district today.

An AK assault rifle was recovered from the deceased militant, he said.
