Israeli soldiers dismantled a small Jewish settler outpost in the West Bank on Monday after scuffling with settlers who tried to block their path, officials said.

The move followed a pledge by Israeli Defence Minister Shaul Mofaz to a US Envoy earlier this month to uproot some isolated outposts as stipulated by a US-sponsored ‘‘road map’’ to peace between Israel and the Palestinians.

‘‘If they evict us today, we will be back tomorrow,’’ vowed Yehoshua Mor Yosef, spokesman for Yesha settlers’ council.

Police said they arrested three of about 20 settlers who tried to block soldiers from removing the uninhabited Havat Shaked outpost near Nablus. A police spokesman said the Army destroyed a single makeshift structure.

An Israeli government source had said earlier that Mofaz ordered the removal of six to 10 outposts, of an estimated 100 set up without government permission. Most of the international community regards the settlements as illegal. Israel disputes this.
