The Amarnath Sangarsh Samiti, spearheading the ongoing stir over the land transfer row in Jammu region, on Tuesday said it would withdraw the agitation if its demands were met by the Centre.
“If the Centre issues an order fulfilling our demands, we will call off the agitation,” Samiti spokesman Narinder Singh told reporters in Jammu.
The demands included rescinding of the order revoking transfer of land to the Amarnath Shrine Board and removal of Jammu and Kashmir Governor N N Vohra, he said.
The Samiti had submitted its demands in writing to an all-party delegation, led by Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil, which visited violence-racked Jammu and Kashmir last week.
The delegation had held discussions with the Samiti, an amalgam of 35 political, social and religious outfits, in an attempt to douse the Amarnath fire.
On reports that the Centre had invited leaders of the agitation for talks, Tilak Raj Sharma, a Samiti leader, said they had received nothing in this regard.
“We have only heard this from the media. When such a proposal will come, we will respond appropriately,” he said.
On the separatists’ march to Muzzafarabad in Pok which was thwarted by security forces, Sharma said it was aimed at diverting attention from the stir in Jammu.
“It is also directed at pressurising the Centre against accepting our demands,” he said dismissing allegations that the Samiti had enforced economic siege of Kashmir valley.
