President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has praised as a ‘positive step forward’ the US participation in the latest round of nuclear talks with Iran. He says it also was an attempt toward ‘recognising’ Iran’s right to acquire nuclear technology.

Addressing thousands of supporters on Wednesday in the southern Iranian town of Yasouj, he said the US decision to attend the talks in Geneva, Switzerland, also constituted a step toward ‘justice’ and repairing what he called America’s image in the world.

The United States and its Western allies accuse Iran of seeking to acquire nuclear weapons and demand that it freezes uranium enrichment.

Iran rejects the demand and insists that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes.
