The two women councillors, who had been allegedly kidnapped from the MLA hostel on December 31, surprised the police when they presented themselves at the Marine Drive police station this morning.
While Shobha Devkate appeared before the Marine Drive police this morning, Akkabai Dayaram Sonawane showed up with her lawyer there late last night. However, both had a different story to narrate.
Akkabai has confessed to the police that she had staged her own kidnapping. The woman councillor from Nandgaon said she asked suspect Padma Nikam to pick her from the MLA hostel on Wednesday afternoon.
The second councillor, Shobha Devkate, however, stood by the kidnapping theory. She told the police that suspects Padma Nikam and Sanjay Bankar had indeed abducted her.
According to the FIR report filed at Marine Drive police station, both Akkabai and Shobha were reportedly bundled into a jeep outside MLA Hostel in Babckbay Reclamation on December 31.
