61 pc voter turnout in third phase of K’taka polls

The third phase of polling for Karnataka assembly elections witnessed a 61 per cent voter turnout on Thursday.

Deputy Chief Election Commissioner R Bhattacharya told mediapersons here that polling was held at more than 12,400 polling stations in eight districts of the state.

He said the polling was peaceful and there were no reports of any untoward incident.

Out of 1.17 crore voters, 61 per cent voters exercised their franchise, he said.

Bhattacharya said the voter turnout is expected to go up as even till 5 PM polling stations were witnessing healthy attendance.

The turnout for the first phase of polling in Karnataka held on May 10 was 63.17 per cent. In the second phase on May 16, it was 67.75 per cent.

The counting of votes would commence from the morning of May 25 and results would be out by afternoon the same day, Bhattacharya said.
