At least four officials of the Atomic Energy Commission based in Banda Daud Shah tehsil of Karak district, North-West Frontier Province, were kidnapped from their office by armed men on Sunday, The Dawn said.

A Reuters report, however, said the police gave chase and rescued the officials after shooting dead three abductors.

Earlier, The Dawn said five staff members were in their office when four armed men entered the compound and demanded keys of some vehicles from the drivers there. They then took away four officials and three vehicles.

The office was established a few years back, following discovery of high-grade uranium in the area. Banda Daud Shah police sources said two teams headed by senior officials had set out for the rescue mission.
