The Nanavati Commission report on the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in New Delhi is likely to be placed before the Parliament on Friday. The Action Taken Report (ATR), prepared by the Union Home Ministry, is slated to be placed before the Union Cabinet tomorrow for approval.

Union Home Minister Shivraj Patil today told the Rajya Sabha that the ATR had been prepared and was awaiting Cabinet clearance.

The Commission submitted the report to Union Home Minister in February. Although the Home Ministry had initially indicated that it would be placed before the Parliament in the Budget Session, it was not tabled.

It is understood that the Commission has indicted some senior Congress

leaders while giving a clean chit to the Congress Party itself. It is also believed to have questioned the role of the police and the administration in the riots.

It is reliably learnt the ATR had twice been changed by the Union Home Ministry as Patil was not satisfied with it.
