SURAT, Nov 15: Mystery shrouds the alleged drugging-and-rape of a 19-year-old girl in the New Civil Hospital premises on Saturday evening. The girl claims she was drugged by three acquaintances and then raped. The three youths, who were arrested on Sunday, however, said they were innocent.
The Umra police have obtained blood, saliva, semen and fingerprint samples of the accused and the victim, Umra PI A L Jadeja, who is investigating the case, told Express Newsline, adding that the results, expected in a couple of days, could provide conclusive evidence of what actually happened on Saturday afternoon.
The youths were arrested early on Sunday morning after the victim complained to the police that they had promised her a break in modelling, brought her to the hospital staff quarters and offered her a soft drink. She said she remembers nothing of what happened after she had had the drink.
Police sources said, however, that the marks on the girl’s body indicated she could have been assaulted before being left at the entrance of the staff quarters in a semi-conscious state, where a policewoman discovered her and reported the case to the Umra police.
Jadeja said, however, that the girl had given conflicting statements since regaining consciousness late on Saturday night.
