The much-hyped Eras Tour, scheduled until August 9, is the sixth concert tour by acclaimed American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. It is Swift’s first tour after 2018 as the Covid-19 pandemic didn’t allow her to tour for her albums, Lover (2019), Folklore (2020), and Evermore (2020). As such, she is currently embarking on the Eras Tour in support of all these albums, including her latest, Midnights (2022) — and pictures and videos from the same have been going viral on social media.
With several shows already done, the singer’s tour has received unanimous critical and popular acclaim, with fans not getting enough of Swift’s music, production, versatility, and overall charisma.
However, a recent TikTok video taken during one of the shows has sparked an online debate about appropriate concert etiquette. Posted by TikTok user livymadethis, the video shows a woman twerking on another person during the concert. Liv then showed her friend laughing, seemingly in response to the fans’ dancing. After this video went viral, people started weighing their opinions about the appropriateness of such dancing during a concert setting.
While a user wrote, “Taylor Swift has no singer that calls for dancing like that,” another wrote: “I am so happy that everyone agrees that this is ridiculous.”
“Embarrassing! Not them ruining Taylor’s best single,” a user tweeted.
Some people however came to the defense of the fans in the video. “I could literally care less if they were dancing like this, if they felt like dancing that way, let em, they paid for tickets and they are gonna enjoy it how they want. Literally no harm done to anyone! Enjoy the concert lol thats why you’re there!” a user wrote.
Another added, “It’s not inappropriate?? It’s perreo, VERY common in the Latin community. I do the same all the time even if it’s not a reggaeton song, it’s just for fun.”
This isn’t the first time a debate has been stirred about concert etiquette on social media. Prior to this, a TikTok video taken during Billie Eilish’s concert resurfaced last month which showed a fan singing louder than the singer.
