The British royal family is all set to host the official coronation ceremony of King Charles III, who assumed the throne after the death of his mother Queen Elizabeth II in September last year. The ceremony will take place at London’s Westminster Abbey on May 6 with a series of grand events, including much pomp, pageantry and street parties.

As King Charles and Queen Consort Camilla are officially coronated, eight young boys will stand beside them as pages of honour. Buckingham Palace recently announced that Prince George, the eldest son of Prince William and Kate Middleton, and second in line to the British throne, will serve as page of honour to King Charles along with Lord Oliver Cholmondeley, Master Nicholas Barclay, and Master Ralph Tollemache.

Meanwhile, the queen consort’s pages will be her grandsons, Master Gus, Master Louis Lopes, and Master Freddy Parker Bowles; as well as her great-nephew, Master Arthur Elliot.

With his official role at the coveted royal ceremony, Prince George will mark the first time in modern royal history that a future king is officially involved in such a service. According to The Telegraph, he will also become the youngest future king to play an official role at a coronation.

The nine-year-old will be tasked with carrying the King’s robes along with other pages of honour. “Bringing George in also sends all the right symbolism for the future and gives him something he will always remember,” royal author Hugo Vickers told The Times.

All the pages of honour are expected to wear matching scarlet uniforms. Traditionally, the uniform includes a knee-length scarlet coat with gold trimmings over a white satin waistcoat and lace jabot, white breeches, white stockings, and black shoes with buckles. They also carry a small ceremonial sword.

Earlier, King Charles attended the coronation of Queen Elizabeth at the age of four but he was only brought in to watch the ceremony. Similarly, Queen Elizabeth also attended her father King George VI’s coronation at the age of 11 but only witnessed the festivities from the Royal Gallery.
