Establishing a morning routine is an essential habit that can significantly impact our overall well-being and productivity. Apart from setting a positive tone for the day, a well-designed morning routine can provide numerous benefits. As such, Kalki Koechlin recently shared her morning routine in a video shared on Tweak India’s official YouTube channel.
“Who needs an alarm clock when you have ‘Mom, mom, mom!’ From dodging banana peeling duties to savouring her morning coffee in the shower, Kalki’s routine is anything but ordinary,” the video description read.
On being asked what’s the first thing she does upon waking up, Kalki hilariously replied, “I roll back to sleep. I usually tell my daughter to let me sleep for another five minutes.”
Becoming a parent can significantly change a person’s daily routine. Something similar happened with Kalki after the birth of her daughter Sappho in February 2020. “Oh yeah, I wake up early. I have a Swiss clock. She’s like a Swiss alarm clock. At 7 am every day, she is up and she is like full of energy. I think she sucks it out of me in the night and then she’s like, ‘mama, let’s go.'”
As for her go-to breakfast, the actor likes to alternate. “I don’t like to have the same breakfast every day. I’ll have muesli with fruits and yoghurt one day, poha another day, an omelette, avocado toast, etc. I really like to keep it different,” she shared, adding that she loves South Indian breakfast. “If I can get a good dosa, nothing like it.”
While Sappho loves eating bananas, Kalki hates the fruit. “Thankfully, she’s now at an age where she can peel her own banana. In the beginning, it was really a testimony of how much I loved her because I had to peel that banana for her,” she said.
Kalki also shared her morning skincare routine in the video. “I keep it very plain. I like using oils more than lotion. So, I have this Nuxe oil, it’s a French brand, which I like to use. Just a few drops of that or sunscreen. That’s it,” the actor revealed.
On being asked if she has a morning fitness routine, Kalki said, “My fitness in the morning is not so good; it’s usually in the evening. I do yoga and I sometimes go for cycling where I live. I have a little seat installed for Sappho in the back now so it’s even more fun.”
Chai or coffee? Well, Kalki is a coffee person. “Black coffee and silence, which is always difficult when you have a toddler. But yeah, I just need those five minutes to myself. Usually, I take my coffee into my shower, and into my bath. I shut the door. I have this time; my bathroom is like a private space in the mornings,” she said.
Is there a habit she would like to change in the morning? “I have gotten rid of the checking phone thing. I don’t have it first thing in the morning or last thing at night. What are the bad habits I have in the morning? Apart from cursing and saying I’m tired? No, I don’t know.”
While it’s important to centre yourself before starting the day, Kalki said that motherhood doesn’t allow her to do that. “I think she just becomes like this source of getting on with the day and I quite appreciate it because otherwise, you know I spend a long time waking up. I can spend two hours waking up. So, this is kind of like snapping out of it,” she said.
As for spending her lazy mornings, she spends them reading, winding down, shutting off the phone, doing things that are more nature-oriented, and just being out for a walk or going for a swim in the sea. “These kinds of things really, really like ground me.”
She also shared a family morning ritual that she passed on to her daughter. “I mean, I eat. Yeah, this is a tradition that we have continued for generations. We all eat first thing in the morning. Actually, I think we both inherited a sweet tooth. We like to have a croissant or some cake or things like that, which my partner finds very shocking,” she concluded by saying.
