A multi-functional home that maximises every inch of space is a dream for those living in crowded Mumbai, where breathing room is a luxury. For actor Alaya F, her apartment is her “hustle home.” A “true Mumbaikar at heart,” the 27-year-old couldn’t imagine living anywhere else—except perhaps New York, owing to its similar culture. “That’s the energy of this home—to keep moving. This is the home that I’m in to work hard, so I can build towards my dream home,” said Alaya.

Architectural Digest India walked us through the three-bedroom apartment located on the ninth floor of a newly constructed building, nestled between Juhu and Andheri, within close reach of her childhood home.

Interior designer Zara Eisa revealed that it took a month and a half to bring Alaya’s vision to life, aligned with her idea that even small spaces can have a huge impact. And in this case, the apartment isn’t just a home, but also an office and filming location rolled into one.

“I needed every room to serve multiple purposes. My aesthetic is pretty neutral, white and bright, but we still needed to make sure I could shoot content in every corner of the house,” said Alaya, who wanted a functional yet versatile home. The challenge, according to Eisa, was to make each area feel fresh while keeping the overall vibe cosy and homely.

Two of the three bedrooms were repurposed—a yoga room and a glam room. The yoga room has a wall of mirrors and a dedicated corner shelf for mats and kettlebells. A wall-mounted rod doubles as a dance accessory and a railing for outfit try-ons. The glam room, on the other hand, exudes a boho-chic aesthetic, with closets lining both sides and a large dressing table positioned in front of a floor-to-ceiling window to allow for ample natural light.

To balance the neutral color palette, Eisa played with textures, incorporating Brooklyn fabrics, woven rugs, ceramic accessories, and touches of wicker. Pops of colour come from plants on the balcony and patterned wallpapers in every room. Personal elements, such as a trophy wall, framed pen drawings by Alaya, candles, hardcover memoirs of her grandparents, and a television equipped with a projector screen in her bedroom, add personal touches to her living space.
