Hariyali Teej is one of three major Teej festivals held in the country, the others being Kajari Teej and Hartalika Teej.

When will Hariyali Teej be celebrated in 2025?

According to Drik Panchang, the festival is observed on the third day of the Shukla Paksha, or waxing phase of the moon, in the Hindu lunar calendar month of Shravan (Sawan), two days before Nag Panchami.

This year, Hariyali Teej will be celebrated on Sunday, 27 July 2025, with the tritiya tithi commencing at 10:41 PM on 26 July 2025 and concluding at 10:41 PM on 27 July 2025.

Why do we celebrate Hariyali Teej?

Hariyali Teej commemorates the sacred union of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati—the day Shiva welcomed Parvati as his wife following her long penance—and represents marital dedication and love.

The festival also coincides with the start of the monsoon season, commemorating nature’s greenery and rejuvenation, hence the name “Hariyali Teej” (“hariyali” means greenery).

How is Hariyali Teej celebrated?

On the day of Hariyali Teej, ladies pray to Goddess Parvati for their husbands, marital bliss, and a happy married life.

They dress in green, get mehendi (henna), sing traditional songs, and eat meals and seasonal sweets like ghewar, making it a lively celebration of joy and devotion.
