Weeks after being admitted in a critical condition, celebrated fashion designer Rohit Bal released a statement on his Instagram expressing gratitude to his family, fans, and supporters. Recall that he was admitted to the intensive care unit of Medanta Hospital in Gurugram with a critical heart condition and some infection.
In his latest statement, Bal said that he is “healing”.
“I am deeply touched by your outpouring of love and prayers during my illness. Your support has been a beacon of hope and strength, helping me on my journey to recovery,” he wrote.
He continued, “As I heal, I am reminded of the resilience of our bond and our shared dreams. Our brand remains strong, and I assure you, the show must go on. Your faith in our vision is the driving force behind its continued success.”
The ace designer also shared that despite the “challenging times”, he is looking to keep moving forward with hope and courage.
Speaking with indianexpress.com when Bal was admitted, the treating interventional cardiologist Dr Praveen Chandra on December 4, 2023, said, “It has been a few days that he has been admitted. He is critical and of course on ventilator support. He is on medications.”
Bal, 62, who had a critical cardiac condition, was reportedly struggling with alcohol addiction and was in and out of rehab. In November 2022, Bal’s condition worsened which led to his admission to the hospital.
In February 2010, Bal faced a heart attack that necessitated an angioplasty.
Known for his flamboyant designs, and a favourite with many Bollywood A-listers, Bal hails from Kashmir and is one of the most acclaimed fashion designers in the country.
After graduating from St Stephen’s College, he learned fashion design at NIFT, Delhi. His designs have been worn by international celebrities like Pamela Anderson, Uma Thurman, Cindy Crawford, and Naomi Campbell, among others.
Bal also ventured into jewellery design. He was known for the use of lotus and peacock motifs. He frequently used rich fabrics like velvet and brocade.
He was awarded the ‘Designer of the Year’ at the Indian Fashion Awards in 2006. In 2020, he was named as the ‘Iconic Fashion Designer of the Country’ at the Rajnigandha Pearls India Fashion Awards.
