Kareena Kapoor Khan’s beauty and elegance is a much talked about affair, and the Bollywood icon has been vocal about going all natural and refusing surgeries and fillers. During a recent conversation with Barkha Dutt on her podcast, Kapoor Khan spoke about the ways in which she keeps herself young and happy, that do not involve beauty treatments.

When asked about her take on surgical and cosmetic interventions, and Botox, Kapoor Khan said: “I’m very much against Botox. I’m all for self preservation, in a good sense. Being healthy, feeling great, natural therapies, preserving myself and my talent, because that is my weapon. Taking holidays, taking time out to spend time with loved ones, family and friends, engaging in different activities apart from just being on set, are also forms of self preservation rather than needles and going under the knife.”

People are forgetting that it is so important to preserve your body and mind, rather than choosing injectables, she told Dutt during the interview.

Dr. Nilesh G Satbhai, Head of Department – Plastic, Hand & Reconstructive Microsurgery and Transplant Surgery, Gleneagles Hospital, Mumbai, said that currently, “a large number of people are opting for Botox.” “It helps to deal with the fine lines and wrinkles by relaxing the facial muscles. This is a quick, non-surgical treatment that can be done to smooth areas like the forehead, frown lines, and crow’s feet, helping with a youthful look,” said Dr Satbhai.

However, if not done correctly, Botox can lead to unnatural results and complications like drooping eyelids, a frozen expression, or uneven results. “Botox should only be administered by a qualified plastic surgeon, dermatologist, or trained expert,” stressed Dr Satbhai.

What should you keep in mind?

Before opting for the procedure, it’s essential to discuss your medical history, expectations, and understand the associated risks. Additionally, results are temporary and may require repeat sessions later, as advised by the expert, said Dr. Satbhai.

Dr Satbhai asserted that a well-informed decision allows natural results and avoids unnecessary complications that lead to dissatisfaction and loss of peace of mind. “Always prioritise safety over trends that are promoted on social media. It is essential to verify your doctor’s credentials before undergoing any treatment. The line between what to do and what not to do can often be a tricky distinction. So do not just follow any trend just because your favourite celebrity is promoting it,” said Dr Satbhai.

Beware of this

Dr Gunasekar Vuppalapati, senior reconstructive, aesthetic plastic surgeon at GVG Invivo Hospitals, told indianexpress.com, that improper use of Botox — such as excessive dosing or incorrect injection placement — can cause temporary muscle weakening, which might contribute to a ‘heavy’ or droopy appearance. This effect is not permanent and typically resolves as the Botox wears off. In some cases, prolonged muscle inactivity can cause mild atrophy (muscle thinning), which may contribute to subtle changes in facial structure over time. However, this is not the same as skin sagging, primarily caused by natural aging, collagen loss, and gravity.

Dr Vuppalapati says, “The decision to undergo Botox should be based on individual aesthetic goals, skin condition, and medical history. Consulting with an experienced aesthetic surgeon or dermatologist is essential to determine whether Botox is the best option or if alternative treatments may be more suitable.”

Before undergoing the procedure, individuals should research the qualifications and experience of their provider. Botox should always be administered by a licensed professional with expertise in facial anatomy to ensure natural-looking results and minimise complications.
