After Tubal Ligation, a permanent form of contraception, due to unforeseen circumstances, some women may seek reversal of sterilization. Laparscopic tubal recanaliztion, being a minimally invasive surgery, has introduced a new dimension for tubal reconstruction. Short-term Laparoscopic tubal recanalization has emerged as an alternative to microsurgical reversal of a ligated fallopian tube. The procedure aims to reconnect the previously cut sections of the fallopian tube. After family planning, some women want to reverse the procedure that created the break in the fallopian tube. In the reverse procedure, the fallopian tubes are reconnected to re-fertilize.

What is Laproscopic Tubal Recanalization?

Tubal ligation is the tying of the fallopian tube, resulting in permanent contracepetion. Howeever, this procedure can be modified laparoscopically. It should be noted that women’s chances of becoming pregnant after re-canalization depend on age and the function of their ovaries. It is a sophisticated procedure perforned by only a few highly skilled surgeons.

Before the procedure:

The patient is thoroughly examined and investigated before the procedure will be explained in detail to the husband and wife. This procedure is performed only if the fallopian tubes are suitable for renastomosis and there is sufficient tube length.

What are Fallopian Tubes?

Fallopian tubes are an integral part of female fertility. The fallopian tubes are tiny tubular stuctures that connect the uterus to the ovaries. The fallopian tubes are tiny tubular stuctures that connect the uterus to the ovaries. The fallopian tubes provide the path for the eggs to travel from the ovaries to the uterus. In the process of conception, the ovary releases an egg, which travels into the fallopian tube, the sperm travels into the fallopian tubes to fertilize the egg, there by forming an embryo and it is transported to the uterus where nutrition and the next stage of pregnancy take place. Thus a block or cut in these tubes makes fertilization impossible.

During the process:

General anesthesia is the preferred choice of anesthesia for laproscopic tubal recanaliztion. The procedure begins with a small incision at the belly button or half an inch long. After the incision is made, harmless carbondioxide gas is injected into your abdomen. This is done to raise the abdominal walls from your pelvic organs. This providesthe surgeon with an unobstructed view and space to operate. A laparoscope is then inserted through the cut made to view the fallopian tubes. The already tied tubes are first untied and reattached at both ends so that the eggs can be fertilized once again.

Important factors that determine the success of recanalization are the technique of sterilization and the remaining length of the tube after recanliztion. After the procedure is completed, the laparoscope is withdrawn and the sutures are closed with incisons.

Advantages of Laproscopic Tubal Recanalization:

Laproscopic Tubal Recanalization has many advantages over open operation. The main advantage of Laproscopic Tubal Recanalization is that there is no large skin incision, resulting in less scaring. The procedure requires minimal tissue handling, so postoperative adhesions are minimal. Smaller incisions also help with faster recovery after surgery. The range of complexity is kept low. In most cases, patients are able to leave the hospital post procedure within hours of the procedure.
