Forget the intimidation! Celebrity trainer Senada Greca, who works with stars like Miranda Kerr, Kim Kardashian, and Bebe Rexha, is here to debunk the myth that fitness requires hours of sweat. Senada emphasises the power of small, consistent steps, advocating for starting with just five minutes of exercise a day.

According to what Senada said on The Jay Shetty podcast, the key lies in habit formation. Dr Imraan Khan (PT), Consultant Head Physiotherapist at Wockhardt Hospitals, Mira Road, agrees that consistency is crucial. “Being consistent about your exercise routine can make it easier to achieve your fitness goals,” he says. When you actively make working out a regular part of your day, it becomes a daily habit, leading to positive results over time.

Senada acknowledges initial skepticism: “People often think ‘what’s the point?’ But those five minutes are all about building a habit,” she explains. “Fitness isn’t a sprint; it’s a lifelong marathon. You want to be active consistently, and five minutes daily is a great starting point.”

She emphasizes the gradual nature of progress. “You might not see immediate results, but that’s okay. Five minutes a day for a week, then ten minutes the next – small, consistent steps lead to lasting change and make fitness more accessible for everyone.”

Dr Khan also cautions that a toned figure requires a holistic approach. “Reaching a toned figure involves collective efforts,” he explains. This includes:

Healthy and Wise Food Choices: A balanced diet fuels your body for exercise and recovery.

Variety in Workouts: Don’t get stuck in a rut! Mix up your routine with different exercises to target various muscle groups and prevent plateaus.

Rest and Recovery: Give your muscles time to repair and rebuild after exercise.

Hydration: Drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and support muscle function.

While five minutes a day won’t magically sculpt a toned physique, it’s a great starting point to build the habit of consistent exercise. This habit, combined with the other factors mentioned above, can lead to significant health and fitness improvements.

Building the habit: Exercises for your 5-minute routine

Dr Khan suggests incorporating a variety of exercises into your five-minute routine, such as:

Remember, consistency is key. Start with five minutes a day and gradually increase the duration and intensity of your workouts as your fitness improves.
