In a press conference once, Sakshi opened up about how their journey began with unfamiliarity and transformed into a deep friendship grounded in love, trust, and mutual respect.
“I actually met my mother-in-law just one day before we got married for the first time,” Sakshi revealed, candidly reflecting on the early days of her married life. She recalled how, after marriage, she moved into the Dhoni household while her husband was away for matches. “I was waking up to strangers,” she shared, painting a vulnerable picture of how foreign it all felt in the beginning.
But what started as unfamiliar soon evolved into something beautiful. “Touchwood, we share a very beautiful bond—we’re like friends, actually. We talk about everything,” Sakshi said, emphasising the emotional growth that has occurred over time.
Sakshi also offered a glimpse into the personality dynamics within the Dhoni household: “My mother-in-law is the more chilled-out one, while my father-in-law is the strict one. That’s probably why Mahi is so disciplined.” Now Dhoni’s complete composure on the field makes so much sense!
“She’s an immense support to me—I honestly can’t imagine not living with her in the same household,” Sakshi admitted, touching on the emotional reliance and companionship that’s now part of their everyday life. For many, this kind of bond with a mother-in-law is aspirational.
Sakshi also pointed out that space plays a vital role in maintaining harmony within the home. “They’ve never said no to us about anything. I really believe that space is one of the most important things in a relationship, and we’ve always had that.”
