Gone are the days when you’d need to dress up all glam and gorgeous to step out of the house. Thanks to the pandemic, our fashion aesthetic has been fueled with comfort, and looking “normal” is not so bad anymore. And we have a name for this emerging trend: normcore, characterised by unpretentious, average-looking clothing. Think denim jeans, loose t-shirts, sweats and button-downs, teamed with a pair of sneakers.

We’ve got three words to describe this trend – chill, laidback and chic. Normcore fashion has not only dominated runways and catwalks but also caught the fancy of celebrities who have also wholeheartedly embraced this trend. So, let’s check out some of our favourite celebs who donned the normcore aesthetic and gave it their own twist.

Kendall Jenner

First on our list is none other than Kendall Jenner, whose je ne sais quoi style never ceases to amaze fashion critics and fans alike. When she is not modelling, she can embrace “normalcy” in her clothing as seen in this photo where she sported a graphic-print white tank top with a riffed-on-the-edges mini denim skirt. Enhancing her look, she opted for soft pink makeup and styled her tresses in a sleek updo.

Janhvi Kapoor

Our very own B-town diva Janhvi Kapoor can usually be spotted in over-the-top, extravagant looks. But the actor sports equally chic laidback looks. As such, she gave the normcore aesthetic a unique beachy twist as she donned a crisp white shirt. Her easy, breezy hairdo adds the perfect casual yet chic vibe.

Tamannaah Bhatia

Tamannaah Bhatia too gave the normcore aesthetic her own personal touch as she wore a cropped striped shirt and wide-legged jeans with a black bralette underneath. The golden chunky jewellery, however, redefined the look from simple to stylish. With her tresses done in a sleek ponytail and dewy makeup, the Lust Stories 2 actor rounded off the look with natural-looking makeup.

The newest Bollywood kid on the block also opted for the normcore aesthetic in a photoshoot for Ajio. From white tank tops to loose jeans to crop tops and joggers, Shanaya stayed true to the trend.

Malaika Arora
