Business baron Mukesh Ambani and his wife, Nita Ambani, recently made headlines as they attended the US State Dinner at the White House in honour of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the US. Nita, who is known for her impeccable style, showcased her admiration for traditional Indian attire during the lunch hosted by US Vice President Kamala Harris.
For the special occasion, Nita opted for a stunning, pink-toned traditional Gujarati double ikkat Patola sari. The drape featured hand-embroidered motifs on the pallu and tassel detailing on the hemline. She accessorised the look with a diamond necklace and matching earrings. Styling her tresses in loose curls, she sported a natural makeup look to round it off.
Pictures of Nita’s traditional attire were posted on social media, revealing that the ethnic Patola sari is from Patan, Gujarat. “This Patola sari is a contemporary representation of the centuries-old Indian craft. Woven in pure Indian silk by our skilled traditional artisans Dushyant Parmar and Vipur Parmar, this beautiful weave with bright hues, animal patterns and geometric perfection has taken 6 months of hard work to be finished to perfection,” the caption read.
In another look, Nita opted for a Banarasi brocade sari featuring intricate golden threadwork alongwith a beige-coloured blouse. The six yards were meticulously handcrafted by Swadesh, the artisan-only store format of Reliance Industries’ retail arm, Reliance Retail. She complemented the outfit with a layered pearl necklace, bangles and diamond earrings. As for makeup, she went for subtle tones and styled her hair in a middle-parted bun adorned with a gajra.
Revealing details of the outfit, the caption of the post by NMACC read, “Our Founder & Chairperson, Mrs. Nita Ambani, was dressed in an exquisite handwoven Banarasi brocade from the sacred land of Varanasi for the State dinner hosted by U.S. President Joe Biden in honor of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Banarasi brocade tells the tale of culture and splendour that is passed down generations. Handwoven by traditional Indian artisans Mohammad Yasin and Jabbar Ahmad, this beautiful weave is a tribute to the craftsmanship of Banaras and took them over a month to complete.”
These outfits are proof that she is indeed a true fashion icon, who can effortlessly pull off traditional Indian looks with utmost grace and elegance. So, tell us which look was your favourite?
