Nita Ambani flaunts rare Kellymorphose, one of the most expensive Hermès bags, at Manish Malhotra’s Diwali bash

The Kelly has become one of the most coveted luxury leather goods worldwide. Designed by Robert Dumas in the 1930s, the Hermès Kelly bag was named in honour of actress-cum-royal Grace Kelly, who was photographed wearing it several times in 1956.

But what makes the Kellymorphose bag so rare and unique?

According to the official website of Hermès, the Kelly is not just a regular bag, but an icon, an enigma and a legend. The Kelly received a tribute through a fine jewellery line dedicated to it. The Kellymorphose collection reimagined the iconic Kelly bag into bracelets, necklaces, and rings by transforming its shape and details —like its clasp and lock —into precious-metal and gemstone jewellery, with pieces like a mini silver “Sac Bijou” bag or diamond-encrusted necklaces.

With a strongly assertive form, the Sac Bijou bag is both functional and ornamental. Available in shades of rose gold, velvety black, white gold, solid silver, and sterling silver, studded with baguette-cut diamonds and wrapped in chains, the Sac Bijou is a “bag that becomes jewellery, worn around the neck, the wrist or the fingers”.

This rare Kellymorphose Sac Bijou, in sterling silver, features a mock front flap with the signature Kelly design, a chainmail body, short strap, and shoulder-necklace strap with clochette, lock and key design. The interior is in sterling silver chainmail. A part of the Kellymorphose Fine Jewellery 2022 collection, the limited edition accessory boasts a “trapezoidal architecture of leather, featuring two side straps, a clasp, a padlock, and a key-holder”.

At the star-studded party, Bollywood celebrities put their fashion foot forward. From Kareena Kapoor Khan to Kriti Sanon, art patron Shalini Passi to Gauri Khan, stars pulled up in traditional finery, looking resplendent in Anarkalis and saris in jewel tones.

Kriti opted for a two-piece gold, orange and green ensemble, while Shalini chose a floral maroon modern sari silhouette. Kareena’s ivory suit looked chic while Gauri’s red ensemble left a regal impression.
