The patron saint of all living beings who live and breathe fashion, Marilyn Monroe, once said if you give a girl the right shoes, she could conquer the world. Whether you’re a girlie or a ‘theylie’ (as Diet Sabya put it), shoes really do make a difference. We looked towards the global fashion week runways to check out the footwear trends dominating across the board.
Masoom Minawala, global fashion influencer, investor and entrepreneur, told indianexpress.com that footwear trends are evolving, “from the revival of retro styles like chunky platform shoes or Mary Jane pumps to designers pushing the boundaries of new silhouettes.”
Designer Shilpi Gupta of Shilpi Gupta Designs says this growth is a reflection of shifting consumer tastes, technical advancements, and sustainability concerns. “Several designers have started using materials like mushroom leather, organic fabrics, and recycled plastics.”
Let us breakdown the standout footwear trends from this season.
Masoom declares that ballet flats are fully back, “and I am so here for it.” She’s not wrong. ‘Bellies’, as they are colloquially known, are the new IT item to have this season.
From Zendaya and Jennifer Lawrence to Kareena Kapoor Khan and Karisma Kapoor back home, celebs are loving the trend. But before you buy that pair of flats, do read why these shoes might not be good for your feet in the long run.
First, it was the Euphoria makeup trend and now it’s our shoes. It’s official. Sparkles are everywhere and Masoom agrees. “Heels, flats, sneakers – everywhere,” she tells us.
The sneakers have been solidly become a mainstay, both Shilpi and Masoom said. “They have become a global staple no matter the occasion,” added Masoom.
Shilpi recommended opting for white trainers as they have a timeless appeal and can go well with both formal and casual attire.
Classic, chunky, oversized. Loafers are becoming a key silhouette, said Masoom.
“Polished sole loafers with bulky form have been extremely popular among Generation Z,” added Shilpi.
The popularity of Mary Janes is evident with the Margiela Tabi sandals and brands like Theatre gaining prominence. “From sneakers to stilettos to sandals, there’s one Mary Jane to fit everyone’s style,” Masoom believes.
