Several world leaders and foreign dignitaries are embracing Indian attire for the G20 Summit. But one person who deserves a special mention for her sartorial prowess is UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s wife Akshata Murty. Her easy, breezy, and bright-coloured wardrobe is impressing fashion enthusiasts across the globe.

The businesswoman, who previously ran a fashion label, certainly has an affinity for fashion with her thoughtfully curated ensembles from the second she arrived in New Delhi on September 8.

As soon as she touched down in New Delhi, we could not help but notice her stylish avatar which included a mix of Indian and Western wear. Her fusion outfit featured a crisp white shirt tucked into a traditional floral-print floor-length maxi skirt with intricate brocade accents.

On the same day, she made our jaws drop with her series of fashion-forward ensembles. During her visit to the British Council India, Akshata donned a multicoloured printed co-ord set, known as the “Wild Iris” set from Drawn — a homegrown Indian label founded by Rhea Bhattacharya. The contemporary outfit came with a traditional touch, due to Drawn’s Indian roots.

She accessorised it with minimal jewellery, including gold earrings. With her hair tied into a loose ponytail, she chose nude makeup to round it off.

The next day, Akshata attended a millet exhibition at the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in Delhi decked up in a lilac marble-print dress, called the “Valli” dress from the London-based label Manimekala. The label has an Indian connection too, with the founder and designer, Manimekala Fuller, being of half-Indian and half-British roots.

It was noteworthy that Akshata chose a small “slow fashion” brand like Manimekala, showcasing her commitment to sustainable fashion and small women-owned businesses.

She teamed the lilac number with matching heels, a tote bag, and silver hoops. Leaving her tresses cascading in waves, she went for subtle makeup to finish the look.

For the G20 Gala Dinner hosted by President Droupadi Murmu at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on September 9, Akshata once again presented her fondness for fusion wear.

Accompanied by her husband, Rishi Sunak, Akshata looked gorgeous in a printed silk dress, featuring green, blue, and magenta hues, adorned with floral motifs. The exquisite creation featured a V-neck and a flowy silhouette. The multicoloured breezy dress also hailed from a London-based designer of Indian origin, Sonali Lodha.

Akshata’s latest appearance comes Sunday morning as reached the Akshardham Temple in Delhi to offer prayers. This time, she opted for a complete traditional attire as she stepped out with her husband to visit the temple.

Keeping her look simple yet chic, she opted for a magenta-pink salwar and a mustard kurta. The suit featured floral motifs across the canvas, while the salwar was in a palazzo silhouette, paired with a matching dupatta.

She accessorised the look with traditional bangles and golden hoops. With a natural makeup look and middle-parted hairdo, she completed it with a little red bindi.

For the last and final look, Akshata looked resplendent in a pastel pink sari with golden embroidery from Raw Mango. She paired the elegant drape with a matching half-sleeve blouse. Her statement drop earrings, neatly-tied bun and no makeup-makeup look added to the yester-year charm.
