GAUR GOPAL Das wears many hats — he is a bestselling writer and filmmaker, a life coach and motivational strategist. He is also a monk who has spent his life trying to bridge the gap between spirituality and contemporary living. Das, 49, will be our guest at the Express Adda on Thursday.
Das’s initiation into corporate life was conventional. After studying electrical engineering from the College of Engineering, Pune, he worked with a multinational company for a while. But the tedium of the job soon made him opt out of the rat race.
In 1996, Das joined an ashram in Mumbai where he stayed for 25 years, studying not only holy texts, but also philosophy and psychology, and thinking of ways in which these could be brought together to make lives more mindful.
His books — Life’s Amazing Secrets: How to Find Balance and Purpose in Your Life (2018), that has sold more than half a million copies and has been translated into several international and national languages — and Energize Your Mind, that came out earlier this year, have done just that.
As a life coach, Das has travelled the world, speaking at universities and global forums, charities and multinational companies. With more than 500 million views, his videos on social media have a huge following and have guided individuals to strike a balance between work, relationships and spirituality.
Das will be in conversation with Anant Goenka, Executive Director, Indian Express Group.
The Express Adda is a series of informal interactions organised by The Indian Express Group and features those at the centre of change. Past guests at the event include Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of railways, communications, electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw, economists and Nobel laureates Abhijit Banerjee and Esther Duflo, world badminton champion P V Sindhu and national badminton coach Pullela Gopichand, actor Pankaj Tripathi and others.
