Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s swearing-in ceremony is likely to take place at 6.30 pm on June 9, according to sources. The ceremony was earlier slated to take place on June 8.

World leaders including Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, Sri Lanka President Ranil Wickremesinghe, and Nepal PM Pushpa Kamal Dahal are set to attend the function, which will record a presence of over 8,000 dignitaries.

On Thursday, multiple security meetings were held to discuss the security arrangements. “As conveyed by the officials of Ministry of External Affairs, Maldives President Mohammad Muizzu, Vice President of Seychelles Ahmed Afif, Bhutan’s King Jigme Khesar Namgyel Wangchuck, and head of state of Mauritius are coming to attend the swearing-in ceremony. They will stay in four hotels: Taj Palace, The Oberoi, The Leela Palace and ITC Maurya,” a source said.

Sources say the final date and time were worked out keeping in mind the schedule of heads of state from other countries.

Currently, a source said they have made security arrangements for the bilateral meeting, which they are expecting will take place a day after the swearing-in ceremony and then guests will leave. “It has been informed in the meeting that all the newly elected MPs will come along with their spouse and three guests. We are planning to organise a rehearsal before the event to improve the coordination between all the agencies,” the source said.
