Anmol Bishnoi, one of India’s most wanted fugitives and the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, was brought to New Delhi on Wednesday afternoon following his deportation from the United States.
Anmol faces at least 31 criminal cases across the country, including charges linked to the alleged conspiracy to murder former Maharashtra minister and NCP leader Baba Siddique last year.
Here are five things about Anmol Bishnoi:
- 01
Who is Anmol Bishnoi?
Anmol Bishnoi is the younger brother of jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and a key figure in the Bishnoi crime syndicate. He hails from Fazilka in Punjab.
Wanted in multiple states, Anmol allegedly coordinated extortion, targeted shootings, and gang operations from abroad. He is involved in 31 cases across Delhi, Rajasthan, Haryana and Punjab, including the attack on Baba Siddique and a shooting at the residence of Bollywood actor Salman Khan.
After fleeing India in 2022, he was arrested by the NIA on Wednesday following his deportation from the United States.
- 02
Why was he deported from the US?
Anmol entered the United States on a fake passport in the name of “Bhanu". US immigration authorities later discovered forged documents attached to his asylum application.
A Louisiana court rejected his plea, and with a Red Corner Notice issued by Interpol, he was deported on a chartered flight and taken into NIA custody in Delhi.
- 03
What criminal cases is he linked to?
Investigators have tied Anmol to several high-profile crimes, including the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala in 2022, the killing of Baba Siddique in 2024, and the firing incident outside actor Salman Khan’s residence.
Siddique was shot outside his Bandra office on October 12, 2024, and the Mumbai Police named Anmol as the "plotter of the murder" and declared him a wanted accused.
He faces 31 criminal cases across India, including in Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi.
- 04
What role did he play in the Bishnoi gang?
Anmol is a part of Lawrence's global criminal syndicate, which is functional despite Lawrence being incarcerated in Sabarmati Central Jail in Gujarat's Ahmedabad.
According to the NIA, Anmol functioned as a remote commander of the gang’s operations while based overseas. He allegedly provided shelter and logistical support to shooters, managed extortion networks, coordinated with designated terrorist Goldy Brar, and facilitated the gang’s activities during the 2020–2023 period.
He continued to run syndicate operations even while in the US, investigators say.
- 05
Why is his arrest important?
Authorities view Anmol’s arrest as a major breakthrough because he is believed to be the central link between overseas planners and on-ground operatives.
His custody gives agencies access to information on the gang’s funding channels, recruitment patterns, and international network. Given his alleged role as the “main plotter” in multiple attacks, investigators say the arrest significantly weakens the Bishnoi syndicate’s command structure.
