CBI latest news: Being the country’s premier investigating police agency, the scope of Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has expanded hugely in the past few years. From bank frauds to crimes related to wildlife, the CBI is looking into cases ranging from organised crime to cybercrime. However, the main responsibility of the CBI is to free the country from corruption.

CBI Vacancy

Often, the central probe agency finds it difficult to manage the rising number of cases because of limited staff strength. It is quite interesting to know about the total sanctioned strength of the CBI and the number of posts that remain vacant.

CBI Vacancy 2025

In its annual report 2024, the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) said that more than 1,500 posts are lying vacant in the CBI. The CVC exercises superintendence over the CBI in connection with the agency’s probe into offences alleged to have been committed under the Prevention of Corruption (PC) Act, 1988.

The report added that the total strength of the probe agency is 7,300. The highest vacant posts are of “Executive Ranks” followed by Ministerial Staff, Technical Officers, Law Officers and Canteen Staff, as of December 31, 2024.

“The total sanctioned strength of CBI as on December 31, 2024 was 7300, against which 5798 officials were in positions. 1502 posts were lying vacant,” the CVC report said.
