The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has recommended that the Uttar Pradesh government pay Rs 5 lakh as relief to gym trainer Jitendra Yadav, who was allegedly shot at by police in a “fake encounter” in Noida in February.
The commission has asked the state’s chief secretary to submit a compliance report, along with proof of payment, within six weeks. The order comes after the commission suo motu registered a case on February 5, based on media reports about the incident.
According to the NHRC, during the course of enquiry and response to its notices, the UP government informed it that allegations levelled against the police personnel were substantiated and a chargesheet has been submitted against a sub-inspector in the case.
It further told the commission that “efforts are being made to arrest the remaining three accused police personnel, including a sub-inspector and two constables”.
