Police in Madhya Pradesh Wednesday said they killed two Maoists, each carrying a bounty of Rs 14 lakh, in a gunbattle in Mandla district.
Police said the gunfight broke out during a search operation that was launched after receiving intelligence reports of Maoists’ presence in the Mundidadar-Ganeridadar-Parsatola forest area of Kanha National Park.
“The Maoists opened indiscriminate fire, aiming to inflict casualties and seize weapons. In retaliation, security forces killed two uniformed female Maoists,” said a police officer.
Police said both women were members of the Bhoramdev Area Committee under the Kanha Bhoramdev Division of the Madhya Pradesh-Maharashtra-Chhattisgarh Maoist zone.
A self-loading rifle, an ordinary rifle, a wireless set and other daily-use items were found at the site of the gunfight. A search operation is on for other Maoists.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav said: “Due to the vigilance of the police force, two female Naxalites with a bounty of fourteen lakhs were neutralized in an encounter in Mandla district… I congratulate the Madhya Pradesh Police Force for this success.”
Police said one of the Maoists was Mamta, alias Ramabai, who hailed from Gadchiroli district of Maharashtra. The other was Pramila, alias Mase Mandavi, from Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.
