The Tripura Police recently exhumed the body of a 51-year-old woman, and subsequently lodged a case of murder at the Sidhai police station in West Tripura district.

A source said the woman was purportedly killed on suspicion of practising witchcraft earlier this week.

The police have booked a few locals under Sections 103(1), 61(2), 351(3), and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.

“The case was lodged on October 28. Investigation is on to trace the accused persons,” said a police officer on the condition of anonymity.

When asked about the motive behind the murder, the officer did not confirm witchcraft. However, sources in the police said all angles were being looked into.

In 2023, a woman was beaten to death by her in-laws in Khowai district, for allegedly practising witchcraft.
