Tripura Chief Minister Dr Manik Saha Tuesday inaugurated the state’s first ever Superiority Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) groundwater treatment plant at Ushabazar in Agartala to provide clean drinking water to every household.

The plant, with a capacity of eight million litre per day, was built at a cost of Rs 78 crore.

The plant has a smart water quality metre and remote control facilities to ensure purity of water.

Speaking at the inaugural event, Saha, citing Prime Minister Narendra Modi, said that the government is fully committed to enhance basic facilities to people, including provisions of pure drinking water especially in the rural areas.

He also mentioned the different initiatives, including installation of iron removal plants and replacement of iron pipes with plastic and PVC pipes one throughout the state.

Of the total 1,22,094 families in the capital city, nearly 63 per cent households were already provided water connections through pipelines. At present, 55 per cent of urban households in the state have provisions of pipeline connectivity.

A total of 16,224 families would be provided drinking water through pipeline connections in the next two years under the AMRIT-2 scheme. The rest of the families will be brought under the ADB project that costs around Rs 600 crore.
