A children’s court in Panaji extended the police remand of Suchana Seth, accused of killing her four-year-old son, by five days.
Seth, 39, a Bengaluru-based CEO of a tech startup, allegedly killed her son in a Goa hotel and then tried to flee with the body to Karnataka. She was produced in a children’s court in Goa on Monday afternoon after her six-day police remand ended.
The Goa Police had sought eight days custody of the accused, submitting to the court that she was “only talking in bits and parts” and “not disclosing certain things” in the investigation. They informed the court that they were taking the assistance of a psychiatric doctor for the interrogation.
The investigating officer told the court that the panchnama had been completed but further interrogation was required since the accused had not disclosed certain things during the probe.
“She has shown the weapon with which she slit her wrists…but certain things…[about] murder weapon and all, she has not revealed. We have to interrogate her. She is only talking in bits and parts…The DNA tests are pending…” the police officer told the court.
The court asked Seth if she had anything to say, to which she replied,”No, I don’t.”
Seth’s advocate, Franco, said, “The court has extended her custody till Friday. The vakalatnama (a written document submitted before a court by lawyers declaring that a client had authorised them to represent the client in a legal proceeding) is yet to be filed.”
Seth had booked a room at Sol Banyan Grande in Candolim from January 6 to January 10, but she checked out of the hotel on the night of January 7, claiming she had urgent work in Bengaluru. She was caught from Karnataka’s Chitradurga district while allegedly trying to flee in a cab with her son’s body stuffed in a bag.
The police had earlier told The Indian Express that strained relations with her estranged husband, Venkatraman, and a custody battle for the son may have led her to allegedly commit the crime.
