In two separate operations by the security forces in Chhattisgarh’s Narayanpur district, a Maoist camp in Abujhmad region was destroyed and two Maoists involved in damaging a road in the region last year were arrested on Thursday.
Abujhmad is a huge region, larger than the state of Goa in size, and is said to be a stronghold of Maoists. Acting on specific inputs that a Maoist camp has been set up in the Bhatbeda village in Abujhmad region, located around 60 km from Narayanpur city, a joint team of District Reserve Guard (DRG), Narayanpur police and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) set out from Dhanora on a search operation.
“However, before we could reach the camp, the Maoists were alerted by their informers and they managed to flee deep into the Bhatbeda forest,” said Additional Superintendent of Police Hemsagar Sidar.
The police destroyed the tents and seized 100 splinters which are the size of pellets and used along with gun powder for making Improvised Explosive Devices (IED).
In a related development, another team set out from the Orccha police camp in the Abujhmad region and caught two Maoists on Thursday. The two Maoists were committee members of the Nelnar Jan militia. The two Maoists identified as Dasu Korram, 40, and Vijay Korram, 24, were allegedly involved in damaging a bitumen road on April 18 last year in Rainar (between Orccha and Dhanora) in Abujhmad. They have been booked under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act.
