Russia unable to find documents related to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose: Govt in Lok Sabha

The minister, in a written response, conveyed that Russia was unable to find any documents relating to Subhas Chandra Bose.

“In its response, the Russian government has conveyed that they were unable to find any documents in the Russian archives pertaining to Netaji and even after additional investigations made based on the request from the Indian side, they could not find any documents giving more information on the subject,” he said.

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was in Russia till at least 1968 when he met Nikhil Chattopadhyay – son of revolutionary Virendranath Chattopadhyay – at Omsk, an affidavit in a classified PMO file released in 2016 mentioned. Filed before the Mukherjee Commission in 2000, the affidavit quotes Nikhil Chattopadhyay as saying that Bose was in hiding in Russia because he feared being prosecuted as a war criminal in India.

Netaji died on August 18, 1945, suffering third-degree burns after his overloaded Japanese plane crashed in Formosa (now Taiwan). Many people, however, especially in Bengal, refuse to believe the fact and circumstances of his death. There have been conspiracy theories that persisted ever since his reported death.
