Russia Deputy PM meets Chouhan, both discuss increasing agri trade

As per the statement, Chouhan underscored the mutual trust and understanding in India and Russia’s partnership.

Russia’s Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Patrushev met Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday and both leaders discussed deepening bilateral trade and cooperation in the agriculture sector.

The Agriculture Ministry said the key areas of dialogue included enhancing agricultural trade between the two countries, particularly through the expansion of India’s exports of agricultural products.

As per the statement, Chouhan underscored the mutual trust and understanding in India and Russia’s partnership.

The meeting comes a day after Patrushev met Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the World Food India event in New Delhi. They, too, discussed ways to strengthen cooperation in agriculture, fertilizers and food processing.

The Agriculture Ministry statement on Friday said: “He [Chouhan] shared India’s key priorities in the agriculture sector, including ensuring food security, enhancing farmer incomes, and promoting access to safe and nutritious food for all.”

“Dmitry Patrushev highlighted the longstanding and robust cooperation between India and Russia in many sectors including the agricultural sector. He conveyed Russia’s keen interest in further deepening agricultural trade ties between the two countries and showed interest in to formalize this partnership through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU),” the statement said.

“The Indian side underscored the importance of improved market access for key agricultural products in the Russian Federation…” it said.

The Russian delegation included Maksim Markovich, Deputy Minister of Agriculture of the Russian Federation; Denis Alipov, Ambassador of Russia to India; and Sergey Dankvert, Head of the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance of the Russian Federation. Agriculture Secretary Devesh Chaturvedi and other senior officials were also present in the meeting.
