Shutdown in Anantnag,two injured

Anantnag town had witnessed violent protests on November 17 after Eid-ul-Azha prayers.

Locals,demanding release of youths arrested on charges of stone-pelting,today staged protests and clashed with police in south Kashmir’s Anantnag town that left two injured.

Elsewhere in Kashmir Valley,the situation was peaceful with no reports of any untoward incident,official sources said.

Shops and businesses were closed and vehicles were off the roads as normal life was disrupted in Anantnag town,55-km from here,which observed a shutdown.

Demanding release of some 12 youths arrested on charges of stone-pelting,the locals staged protests,indulged in stone-pelting and clashed with security forces.

Police lobbed teargas shells and swung batons to restore law and order,the sources said adding two persons were injured in the violence.

Anantnag town had witnessed violent protests on November 17 after Eid-ul-Azha prayers during which a police vehicle was set afire.
